There should be a usefulness to music —if you’re occupying someone’s brain for 40 minutes and all you’re doing is offering someone a peepshow into your own private intellectual masturbation… I don’t want to do that. I want to give people a swagger, to give people courage. Even if no one’s listening, it’s advice to myself, about how to get through paranoia and remind myself to be better as a human being.
